Leesburg resident Mikey Mendoza, 25, got away once, but wasn't quick enough to get away twice after taking deputies on a brief pursuit over the weekend.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, Oct. 26, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle that was driving without headlights on in the eastbound lanes of Leesburg Pike near North Sterling Boulevard in Sterling.

When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Mendoza failed to pull over and sped away, eluding law enforcement, according to the sheriff's office.

Later that night, the deputy spotted the same vehicle after it was involved in a three-vehicle crash.

It was determined that the driver fled the vehicle after striking the other two, though Mendoza was quickly located by investigators.

Mendoza was arrested without incident and charged with:

  • Driving While Intoxicated;
  • Hit-and-run;
  • Eluding law enforcement;
  • Obstruction of justice.

He's being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.
